The horse won another race. Golden Frontier – the horse that was the
subject of my first blog post – ran on May 24th at Churchill Downs
in a six and a half furlong allowance race, and he won. He won by over 11 lengths and stopped the
clock in 1:15:68. Friends and family of the
owner were on hand for the win, and everyone had a great time at the track.
As
chance would have it, Brereton Jones, the breeder of Golden Frontier, had another
horse that he bred and still owned in the race. As the
horses left the paddock, I introduced myself and my friend to the former
Governor and thanked him for breeding and selling Golden Frontier. He was gracious and actually thanked us for proving that you did not have to spend a lot of money to buy and race a good
horse. He said they could not keep all
the horses that they breed and were thrilled to see Golden’s success. As we walked through the tunnel, I told the
former governor that I sure hoped he was the breeder of the winning horse, but I
knew we disagreed on which horse we wanted to see in the winner’s circle.
Less
than 76 seconds later, Brereton Jones had bred another winner. Everyone waited to see how Golden would come
out of the race and to see just how fast his race actually was. As you can see from the post-race photo
below, Golden cooled out just fine.
